Uber launches a helicopter service in Manhattan for the company's diamond and platinum status customers
Uber’s diamond and platinum status customers are jumping up and down today because they can use the Uber app to book a helicopter flight from Manhattan to JFK International Airport.
Uber Copter is what Uber calls this new helicopter service of theirs that cost about $200 going and about $200 coming back. Therefore, folks end up paying about $400 for a two-way ticket.
Those high rollers can afford that because $400 to them is what $0.04 is to a poor person.
Uber will not be flying folks to and from the JFK International Airport. That will be done by a helicopter company called HeliFlite that is located over there in the New Jersey.
Hm, Uber is using the Garden State’s company to help out the well-off folks over there in the Empire State. Hm.
The helicopter service business that Uber has going on in Manhattan is different from the Uber air taxi service the company is trying out in Melbourne, Australia, Los Angeles, California, and Dallas, Texas. “Aerial Ridesharing” is what Uber calls its Uber Air service which, by 2023, the company hopes to expand beyond its trial phase to paying customers.
If the whole trial phase goes through without any problems, folks will be able to fly around in a futuristic looking helicopter that travels over landing pads that the Uber folks are calling “skyports.”
The sky trips usually take about 8-10 minutes compared to the road trips that can take anywhere from 25 minutes to over an hour; depending upon where you’re going.
As good as the sky trips sound, there’s still the problem of Uber hiring nasty devils to chauffeur its customers around.
Being in the air with a nasty devil is worse than being on the ground because it is, after all, the air. A body can’t jump out and run for help, but it can be thrown out. So yeah, that.
Welp, I gotta feeling those Uber complaints will skyrocket after Uber starts offering the air service to everybody who uses the Uber app.
